Chapter Eight

I looked around the simple, neat bedroom that Christian had shown me. I set my backpack on the straight backed wooden chair that sat just inside the door under the light switch. Beside it was a basic black six drawer dresser, low and wide with three drawers on each side. A narrow rectangular mirror poked up from the center.

The bed was a queen-size with a plain black headboard that matched the dresser. It was made up with a simple pale blue comforter and matching sheets with two pillows plumped against the top of the bed. Two black nightstands stood on either side of the bed. Aside from a single portrait of a smiling omega and two young boys, there were no other furnishings in the room. Even the window was only dressed with a basic set of blinds. This was definitely the room of an unmated alpha.

Despite the lack of personality and layers of comforting design elements, it smelled like home. It smelled like Christian. It smelled like safety. So yeah, home. I turned to where Christian was standing behind me. He smiled shyly with a rare look of insecurity in his eyes.

Ignoring my normal hesitation, I flung myself at him and wrapped my arms around his waist with a big hug. His hands automatically came up around my shoulders as he hugged me back. I stood there against him for as long as I could without being weird, just inhaling his scent and leaning on his strength.

Breaking the hug, I pulled back and beamed up at him. “In case you missed it any of the 537 times that I already said it, thank you so much for having me. And for giving up your bed for me. I can't believe how sweet you are to make that sacrifice.”

Kent's head popped up in the doorway behind his brother's shoulder. “Don't thank him, I'm the one that has to put up with this guy's snoring again.”

Christian blushed red and muttered: “I don't snore.”

Kent nodded at me and said: “Yeah, actually he does. Don't say I didn't warn you in the future. But yeah, don't sweat it. It's going to be nice to have an omega around here again. We've been kinda lost since dad died.” His eyes looked a little bleak as he took in the room behind me.

I looked up at Christian questioningly. He nodded. “This was my dad's room originally. I took it over a few months after he passed. We figured it was stupid to keep sharing our childhood bedroom when there was a perfectly good room standing unused.” He sighed and turned, shoving his brother back playfully. “Now quit lying to my omega. You know damn well that your the one who snores.”

My heart swelled at his words. My omega. Lord, help me but I liked hearing that from him. I grinned though when Kent leaned over and whispered loudly: “He's totally the snorer though. Just saying.” It was funny, even the idea of him snoring was cute to me.
